This one-of-a-kind, hollow-framed, wooden surfboard was handcrafted to showcase our decade-long partnership with the Santa Cruz Guitar Company and its legendary founder, Richard Hoover. Our master artisan, Martijn Stiphout, repurposes recycled materials, including offcuts from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company to craft all our surfboards. This partnership celebrates sustainability and Santa Cruz, a town filled with musicians and surfers alike.

Santa Cruz Guitar has created a stunning, Custom H Cutaway model guitar to match this incredible surfboard. The surfboard and guitar each incorporate materials from the other!

Santa Cruz Guitar Custom Cutaway H Model

This custom Model is perfect for those who prefer the sweetness and ease of playing a small guitar but require more comfort and volume. The body’s depth provides a larger presence than expected for its size. It is built with koa back and sides, a tree native to Hawaii, known for its bright tone without sacrificing warmth. The guitar also features a
San Lorenzo River sinker redwood top with a rare color and figure, exclusive to the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. This beautiful tone wood remains among the most responsive and versatile available. 

The guitar boasts lapis, koa purfling, and 24K gold inlays. And, the overlay headstock material is incredibly special... white oak from the Western Flyer—the boat John Steinbeck chartered into the Sea of Cortez. We're proud to showcase this piece of local lore.

The Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood.
