Surfboard Details

This one-of-a-kind, hollow-framed, wooden surfboard was handcrafted to showcase our decade-long partnership with the Santa Cruz Guitar Company and its legendary founder, Richard Hoover. Our master artisan, Martijn Stiphout, repurposes recycled materials, including offcuts from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company to craft all our surfboards. This partnership celebrates sustainability and Santa Cruz, a town filled with musicians and surfers alike.

Santa Cruz Guitar has created a stunning, Custom H Cutaway model guitar to match this incredible surfboard. The surfboard and guitar each incorporate materials from the other!

This custom H Cutaway Model matches the surfboard, and showcases a collaboration rooted in the decade-long relationship and a shared commitment to sustainability we have with Santa Cruz Guitar Company. This partnership celebrates Santa Cruz, a town filled with musicians and surfers alike.

This custom Model is perfect for those who prefer the sweetness and ease of playing a small guitar but require more comfort and volume. The body’s depth provides a larger presence than expected for its size.

It is built with koa back and sides, a tree native to Hawaii, known for its bright tone without sacrificing warmth. The guitar also features a San Lorenzo River Sinker Redwood top with a rare color and figure, exclusive to the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. This beautiful tonewood remains among the most responsive and versatile available. The guitar boasts lapis and gold inlays and inlays of redwood cones to match the real cones in the surfboard's translucent fin. The overlay material is incredibly special — white oak from the ribs of the original Western Flyer boat

More about the Wester Flyer boat

The Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood. 

The surfboard includes a wooden display sign and a handmade bag by Sagebrush Board Bags created using coffee bean sacks and unique, remnant fabrics.

Every Ventana board comes with a special edition of our standard Save-a-Surf Wax Box. This version includes two, custom-made vent plug screws.
