This longboard fin is handcrafted of Douglas fir from the hull of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood.

We also included redwood from Hangar One at Moffett Federal Airfield in Sunnyvale, California. The hangar was built in 1932 to house the USS Macon Zeppelin. We sourced this storied wood from Mission Bell Reclaimed.

The lighter wood is mahogany reclaimed from old shutter doors. The base is Indian rosewood from Santa Cruz Guitar Company production offcuts.

It is glassed with Entropy Resins, bio-based epoxy and a sheet of 4-ounce Aerialite fiberglass

Length: 9 inches

All Ventana Fins are ECOBOARD Project Gold Level Verified by SustainableSurf.org!
