The Ventana "Skiffhout" was built by master artisan Martijn Stiphout as his personal fishing vessel. Tango Skiffs are designed to be lightweight, low-power planing skiffs.
Contact us with interest in having us build you a custom boat. The boat was created with many of the same reclaimed and salvaged woods and materials used in Ventana surfboards. This is a modified version of the Tango 15, plans for which are available here.
The boat is created with reclaimed wood and salvaged materials from Santa Cruz Guitar Company production, the Poke House, Tepui Tents, Copper Pig Woodworking, the 1800s cooperage building UC Santa Cruz campus, the Samurai Seamstress, Camp Six, and the original Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew chartered this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood.
The steering wheel includes a center disc hand-painted by Marijke Stiphout. There are abalone inlays and accents added throughout the boat.
The hull of the boat is plywood, and it's fiber glassed with Aerialite surf glass and Entropy Resins bio-based epoxy with Black Diamond Pigments color.
Additional vendors and electronics from West Marine, Amber Marine, Garmin, Odyssey Battery, Boss Audio Systems, and Suzuki Outboards.
