Follow The Sun Handplane
SOLD, but we can make more, just ask!
This fish-shaped handplane is part of our Ventana Handplane Artist Project collection. It was hand-painted by the incredibly talented, Anastasiya Bachmanova of Follow the Sun Art.
She drew inspiration from canary rockfish for its color and California poppies, our state flower. She’s allowed bits of the reclaimed redwood to show through
We’re so stoked to collaborate with Anastasiya! She’s an artist, environmentalist, adventure seeker, and mom living in Santa Cruz, CA. She was raised in St. Petersburg, Russia and Philadelphia, PA before taking on studies at CSU, Monterey Bay. In 2013 she received a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Studies, specializing in a combination of environmental science and fine art. Soon afterwards she established Follow the Sun Art, her creative undertaking, which aims to share a message of conservation with the community.

The wood is spruce from Santa Cruz Guitar Company production offcuts. We glassed it with Entropy Resins, a bio-based epoxy, and Aerialite Surf Glass. The hand strap is nylon and adjustable. It is covered with neoprene from a Buell Wetsuit, and the wood is shaped with our unique, ergonomic hand fit. The hardware is solid brass. As with all Ventana handplanes, this one floats so you can easily pass it between friends in the waves.
It comes with a free cinch sack made by Sagebrush Boardbags from coffee bags and remnant fabrics.
Shaped, finished, and designed in Santa Cruz, California by master artisan, Martijn Stiphout
