Pebble Beach CompanyThis sleek, hollow-framed, wooden surfboard created for Pebble Beach Company pays homage to an original Lightning Bolt shape created by Jack Shipley and Gerry Lopez. The board is available at a boutique store at Pebble Beach resort.

The bottom deck's "sun rays" are made from salvaged redwood and Doug fir from the original planks at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk that came to us by way of Mission Bell Reclaimed. The "water" is made of bay laurel from the cooperage building located on the UC Santa Cruz campus and used in the lime industry in the 1880s. The cooperage wood came to us by way of Santa Cruz Guitar Company. There is a thin strip of paduak from Upcycled Skate Art located between the water and sunburst. The yellow sun is a slice from a golf ball donated to us from The Plastic Pick Up.

The top deck is made of Doug fir from the hull of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew chartered this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja

Western FlyerCalifornia, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood. The top also includes Alaskan yellow cedar salvaged from a Monterey Bay Aquarium bench and redwood and Doug fir from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk that came to us by way of Mission Bell Reclaimed. It also incorporates redwood from salvaged floorboards used in the local, Schwan mansion in the late 1800s and black walnut donated by Mission Bell Reclaimed.

The vent plug and leash cup are made of Ashley Lloyd Surfboards Entropy Resins drippings.

The glassed-on single fin is made of Doug fir from the Western Flyer boat. Martijn used a scroll saw to create translucent "roots" through the fin.

The rails are made of cork which is more resistant to dings. There are two sheets of Aerialite 4-ounce fiberglass on top and one on bottom. The epoxy is Entropy Super Sap 100 bio-resin which is up to 40% tree sap and is very strong and light.

As with all Ventana Surfboards, the interior is glassed and sealed, as well.

This board is hollow, lightweight and will ride as great as it looks. Given the uniqueness of each side, it's two art pieces in one.

Made in Santa Cruz, California by master craftsman Martijn Stiphout.

Includes an aluminum, museum-quality 4"x6" display sign and a handmade bag by Sagebrush Board Bags created using coffee bean sacks and unique, remnant fabrics.
