Pebble Beach CompanyThis hollow-framed, wooden surfboard was created for Pebble Beach Company and in turn was purchased by one of their customers. It is built to surf smoothly and fast in any sized wave.

The bottom deck is made from redwood salvaged from the wall joist framing around the medicine cabinet in John Steinbeck's first house in Pacific Grove, California. There, Steinbeck wrote his first novel, Cup of Gold published in 1929. The deck also includes Doug fir from the original planks of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk that came to us by way of Mission Bell Reclaimed. The chevron design is made from golf ball slices donated to us by The Plastic Pick Up. The slices are inlayed into soy based, Ecopoxy which has been tinted with Black Diamond Pigments donated by Upcycled Skate Art.

The top deck includes redwood salvaged from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and a dual stringer, patterned inlay made of Indian rosewood, spruce, and Honduras mahogany offcuts from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company.

The tail block is made of the same woods as the dual stringers along with cocobolo from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. It also has an inlayed strip of Ashley Lloyd Surfboards Entropy Resins drippings, as well. We've also incorporated a piece of oxidized white oak from the frame of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew chartered this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja

Western FlyerCalifornia, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood

The vent plug and leash cup are made of Ashley Lloyd Surfboards Entropy Resins drippings.

The glassed-on single fin is made of elm salvaged from a fallen tree at San Jose State University. The raw edge has been filled in with translucent Ecopoxy and Black Diamond Pigments donated by Upcycled Skate Art.

The rails are made of cork which is more resistant to dings. There are two sheets of Aerialite 4-ounce fiberglass on top and one on bottom. The epoxy is Entropy Super Sap 100 bio-resin which is up to 40% tree sap and is very strong and light.

As with all Ventana Surfboards, the interior is glassed and sealed, as well.

This board is hollow, lightweight and will ride as great as it looks. Given the uniqueness of each side, it's two art pieces in one.

Made in Santa Cruz, California by master craftsman Martijn Stiphout.

Includes an aluminum, museum-quality 4"x6" display sign and a handmade bag by Sagebrush Board Bags created using coffee bean sacks and unique, remnant fabrics.
