Ventana Western Flyer Belts by Cali Maple Designs
These removable, snap-on belt buckles are created exclusively for Ventana by Cali Maple Designs and come with a hand-cut, leather belt in charcoal black or chocolate brown.
Each buckle is made from reclaimed wood from John Steinbeck's Western Flyer boat and is laser cut and engraved with the Ventana Treefish Logo. Jana Dougan of Santa Cruz-based Cali Maple Designs then glues them into each metal buckle and applies multiple coats of high quality, high gloss resin. These are as beautiful as they are unique.
The buckle incorporates an easy to use, hook-in-hole design.
The wood in the buckles is Douglas fir from the hull of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez, about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood.
We'll be donating 5% of the profits from these belts to the Western Flyer Foundation to help fund the restoration of the boat.
Strap these through a pair of jeans and imagine yourself sailing into the Sea of Cortez with John Steinbeck and Doc Ricketts.
Each buckle comes with a belt. The combo is $95. After you order, we’ll email you photos of the buckles we have in stock so you can pick the look you want.
