Live Like Jay Tonight
Jay Moriarty was a Santa Cruz surfer, waterman and adventurer. At age 16, he was the youngest person to surf the big wave at Mavericks in Half Moon Bay, California. Although a successful competitor, Jay is remembered as a soul surfer, winning many sportsmanship awards throughout his career. A biopic of his life, Chasing Mavericks, was released in 2012.
This piece honors Jay's spirit. It is made from a bike chain from Bicycle Trip, plywood background from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and antique redwood fence wood. It is studded top and bottom with screws from salvaged circuit boards.
5% of profits from the sale of this piece will be donated to the Jay Moriarty Foundation.
